San Juan, La Union was recently discovered and it's considered to be the Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines. It is known for its consistent intermediate quality waves and two surfing seasons from July to October and November to March. From then on, people from nearby provinces frequent to the place to play the sport giving livelihood to the surrounding communities. But as usual, I am always interested to find other interesting places for recreation and unique areas that will show the other side of the place. So I make my short detours around the place and find what else it has to offer. If you are vigilant, you will be awarded with unique photos that tells a different story. Strawberry Lane: A Fair name for a Trade Fair at the Strawberry Festival

One of the unique innovations during the Strawberry festival is the Strawberry Lane which offers variety of strawberry inspired products from donuts to facial scrub. What was removed from the Baguio Panagbenga Festival which was the flower inspired foods fair, La Trinidad picked up. Chairperson Municipal Agriculturist Fely Ticbaen said that “the trade fair is to showcase different entrepreneurs producing strawberry based products.” Many who participated continued the product that won a Guinness World Record in 2004 when La Trinidad showcased the biggest strawberry shortcake. Different versions had been competed against each other for the best strawberry shortcake since then and some are currently offered at the Strawberry Lane. Normancita Obar also known as Menchi, an entrepreneur of Menchie’s did not only offer cakes but it also produced its unique version of strawberry donuts. 8 degrees Pastries something not to be trifled with

Eight degrees may not be the coldest temperature in Baguio (it was 6.1 recorded in 1961), but it is a place to visit when it comes to pastries and coffee in the City of Pines. A great cafe at the Azalea Residences that uses the local produce like strawberries and carrots for pastry ingredients. In here (like any other cafes) you will encounter strange words like fritzer and trifle.    What in the name of %$#@ is a trifle? As far as I know, the dictionary's description is some sort of a thing of little value or importance. Never thought it has a taste. Well, yes it does and there are even different tastes depending on the ingredients. For the ignorants like me who have no idea what a trifle is, here's wikipedia's description: Trifle is a dessert dish made from thick custard, fruit, sponge cake, fruit juice or jelly, and whipped cream.
